CoverGirl Vitalist Foundation Review + Giveaway

CoverGirl Vitalist Foundation Review | Caitlin Cosmetologist

A couple of weeks ago the CoverGirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir line was sent to me to try.  It was perfect timing since I’ve been trying new foundations over the last several months hoping to find the best makeup for my skin type. If you haven’t yet, you can read my previous review on Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation here.

My skin is combination with a very oily chin and nose, which causes makeup to break up and separate.  I like full coverage foundations because I have acne scarring but I don’t like anything that looks heavy so I actually tend to use medium coverage formulas plus concealer. As I read about CoverGirl Vitalist I was intrigued by 2 things: it contains vitamins and SPF and claims to be lightweight full coverage. I was concerned that it’s not mattifying but that didn’t keep me from trying. Read on to see my thoughts!

My Initial Thoughts On CoverGirl Vitalist

These are the 5 factors I use when deciding how well I like a new foundation:

Coverage: As it claims to be, this foundation is lightweight yet full coverage.  It doesn’t feel cakey but it did a good job of covering blemish scars. To me, this is very impressive! I don’t know of many full-coverage formulas that are truly lightweight.

Consistency: It blends well with both a brush and a sponge. When I used a brush I did use a sponge to blend my concealer because it’s much faster. I like the way the natural finish makes my skin look! It looks and feels smooth and soft.

Longevity/Wearability: I say this all the time- this is the biggest factor when I’m trying face makeup.  Vitalist doesn’t claim to be mattifying BUT it did hold up pretty well. I did use a mattifying primer with it. The only spots that separated were my chin and around my nose- which is usual for me.  It didn’t really start to do so until the end of the workday, though.

Color: The shades seem to run a little dark. I tried 2 colors- 705 (Ivory) & 710 (Classic Ivory).  705 is the lightest in the line and works well for me if I’m slightly self-tanned. It looks a little dark on my natural skin but I’m able to blend it out with concealer and powder and some bronzer on my neck and you’ll see pictured below. 710 looked great when I was first self-tanned but would not work otherwise.  Note: I am pretty fair naturally, so most makeup products are dark on me.

Scent: Unless it’s very strong, the scent doesn’t usually bother me too much.  But some makeup products have very strong smells so this is still something I consider. This one smells like other CG foundations I’ve tried- a slight scent but not overpowering. I didn’t really notice a scent after application.

CoverGirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir

Other Information

The Vitalist line contains 14 shades. According to CoverGirl, this is the perfect makeup for trendy looks like nude glam, athleisure beauty and no-makeup makeup because not only does it provide full coverage it contains vitamins and SPF 20 for healthy skin that stays hydrated and protected.  They also state that Vitalist is “more than just a solution to cover up skin’s imperfections- it allows you to correct, protect and perfect the look of your skin”.  They also note that it’s “dermatologically tested and confirmed”. This foundation is $9.00-12.00.

Yay or Nay? This is definitely a yay!  The fact that it contains SPF is great for the summer when we want to be outside in the sun. If you’re like me and would love to wear less makeup in the heat- this is a wonderful option because it’s so lightweight.  It is still buildable for those problem areas but it never looked cakey on me and did seem to be hydrating.  I suggest getting a shade lighter than what you would normally wear and using a primer if you tend to be oily.
