Why You Should be Using an Eye Cream

Why You Should be Using an Eye Cream | Everyday with CEA Have you noticed the skin under your eyes feeling extra dry? Try an eye cream! Sharing some tips, and some of my favorite products.

Do you use an eye cream? Let’s chat about why should be!

The skin under your eyes is the thinnest skin on your body. And as I am sure you’ve experienced, that area shows signs of fatigue before you even knew you were tired. As the weather gets colder I notice my eye area feeling extra dry, too.

Why Eye Cream is Important

If you’re only using moisturizer around your eyes, it may be enough. But for most of us, something more is needed. For example, I have combo oil skin meaning my eye area is not oily.  The mattifying moisturizer I use to control oil on my face can dry out my eye area. Again, this area of your face is delicate and often sensitive and you have to treat it like so.

Although you may not be worried about wrinkles yet, it doesn’t hurt to get ahead of the game and prevent them. Many eye cream formulas contain wrinkle-fighting properties. (I wouldn’t suggest going overboard but I definitely think using a product or 2 is a good idea. Even if it’s once in a while that you repurchase it.)

A very important tip – use your ring finger in a patting motion when applying products around your eye! Your ring finger applies the least amount of pressure and as we know, the under-eye area is delicate and needs only light pressure.

As far as application, it’s suggested to apply skincare products from thinnest to thickest. So, serums before moisturizers. Most likely your eye cream will come in the middle. If you apply serum around your eye area, also, that will go before the cream.

Have I mentioned that your eye area is delicate? 🙂

My Current Favorites

Personally, I use one eye cream during the day, with SPF, and a different one at night, without SPF.

Supergoop! Bright-Eyed 100% Mineral Eye Cream SPF 40

I started using this eye cream this year and I really like it! You can find a more detailed review, in my “skincare” highlight on Instagram. I actually had a hard time finding an eye cream with SPF, which was really important to me. So, I’m glad this one works! It is brightening so it leaves a slight glow but looks very natural. Besides SPF, this formula also contains probiotics and caffeine which is perfect for the daytime. It but is a clean product at Sephora!

CeraVe Eye Repair Cream

This is one of my dermatologist’s recommendations that I’ve used many times. It’s a clean product at Target, which means it has a great price point! I really like that this contains ceramides to help repair the skin’s barrier.  When the barrier is broken, skin can have more issues like you guessed it – dryness and sensitivity!

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream

This is probably my favorite for nighttime. While it is considered a drugstore product, it’s a higher price point.  My dermatologist recommended this one, too! And I’ve repurchased it many times. The gel formula feels really nice on my skin. This contains hyaluronic acid which promotes moisture and plumps skin. I really do feel like the moisture lasts all day. For that reason, I tend to go back to it during the winter.

Lately, I’ve been mixing the Supergoop! eye cream with the CeraVe cream because I’ve been feeling extra dry. Mixing formulas is always an option, too!

Will you try any of these eye creams?
