Fall Beauty Favorites

Fall Beauty Favorites | Caitlin Cosmetologist

The weather has been so strange here in Northern Illinois. People always say Midwest weather is unpredictable, but I’m still never ready for it. There were a few cool days but it was still in the upper 70’s and 80s until the middle of October. Now that it’s finally cooler my skin and hair are starting to feel drier which makes me think of the products I’ll need to help stay moisturized. Last year, I shared my top products for fighting dry skin. This year I’m revisiting some of these as well as adding a few new products to my fall beauty routine.

This post is sponsored by Harry’s but all opinions are my own.

New Products for my Fall Beauty Routine

Facial Spray

I’ve been using essential oils to help with allergies, skin and digestion and it dawned on me that I could make a refreshing spray with just a few ingredients that I already have. I added witch hazel (my derm suggested I use this regularly anyway), lavender oil and a little bit of distilled water to a 4oz stainless steel spray bottle. I shake it up and spray allover my face as needed. Lavender helps calm irritation and witch hazel is a toner, among other things. I’ve never been a big fan of lavender scents but the oil is a lighter smell and mixed with witch hazel it has a fresh scent. I’m made a few other blends with my essential oils that I’ll share in a future post. In the meantine, check out my essential oil board on Pinterest!

Harry’s Shave Kit

This may sound weird but I’ve been using a men’s razor. When I was first approached about this product I thought I would to give it to my boyfriend or dad to try. But, then I remembered hearing that a men’s razor gives a better shave so I decided to see for myself.  I actually really liked my Truman razor. There’s something about the blade that leaves my skin feeling better than the “woman’s” razor I’d been using. It may be the hinge, it may be the lubricating strip or both. Either way I haven’t noticed underarm irritation which used to be pretty common.

Gender aside, this is a quality razor and the blades are cheaper than other brands. In fact, this trial offer costs only a few dollars. It includes a Truman razor, a travel foaming shave gel and a travel razor cover, which is a $13 value.  Once you see how well the blades work you may be interested in subscribing to get your own blades for $2 or less. Other brands I found sell them for almost $5! I can understand why you might not like something geared towards men, or a shave gel that has a cologne smell, but I would recommend trying Harry’s if you tend to have sensitive skin. The kit also makes a great gift for a hard to shop for guy!

Products I’m Bringing Back to my Fall Beauty Routine

Deep Conditioner

Curly/wavy hair tends to be dry so year round I use conditioner in the shower and a leave in after I towel dry. But in the fall I definitely notice a need for extra moisture. I like to apply a deep conditioner over my normal conditioner in the shower and wait until the end to comb through and rinse it out. This It’s A 10 Miracle Hair Mask is a favorite. Of course, it provides 10 benefits and smells wonderful! I avoid applying conditioner near my scalp because it can make that area look oily. Instead, I apply it mid shaft to ends.

In-Shower Lotion

I tried this in-shower lotion last year but took it out of my shower in the spring. Let’s be honest, it takes a lot of time to moisturize after a shower, especially when you have long limbs. So, I appreciate the time this lotion saves me. Just make sure you wipe the shower out because it leaves it slippery! I like the cocoa butter scent but there are a few other options.

Eye Cream

I’ve been using an eye cream since my early 20s. But, I decided to try a new one recommended by my dermatologist. My skin has greatly improved after acne and scarring, so I’m careful about the products I use. My main skincare products were approved by my dermatologist so it made sense to add an eye cream she approved, too. I like the Cerave Eye Repair Cream because it’s under $11 and it seems to work well. It’s not heavy or greasy and blends in well around my eyes.

This list of fall beauty favorites may grow as we make our way into winter but in interest of avoiding a super long post, it’s a good place to start. My main goal is to keep up with my healed skin while also not letting my hair get brittle. Not too much to ask, right? *insert grimmacing emoji*

  1. These are some great picks! I have not tried this razor but I use a men’s razor too! I don’t understand the whole women’s razor marketing – we don’t need frilly pink things, just something that works great! This one sounds like a great option! I’ve tried that Nivea lotion and it is fab!
