Dealing with hair that is dry and unruly? Here are some products and tips to help fight frizz!
To start, you’ll want to identify what is causing the frizz. Is your hair dry? damaged? curly? Knowing the cause can help you find the right products to help smooth and tame your hair.

What Causes Frizz?
Frizz happens when hair is dry and the cuticle (or outside layer of the hair strand) becomes uneven. A number of things can cause it to be dry – like the weather, heat, or chemical damage, tension or friction, or overwashing your hair.
Did you notice a theme here? All these factors cause dryness.
So, how do you fix that?
Products to Fight Frizz
If you’re not sure what is causing the frizz – I recommend using a moisture shampoo and conditioner and seeing how your hair reacts. 2 of my favorites are IGK Hot Girls and Sexy Hair Healthy Moisturizing.
You can also add a conditioning treatment in the shower. Like the It’s a 10 Miracle Hair Mask. You can use this once a week, or every few times you wash your hair. I like to apply it over my normal conditioner for an extra boost.
Follow your shampoo and conditioner with a leave-in conditioner. I’m currently using IGK Good Behavior 4-In-1 Prep Spray. And a new favorite of mine is IGK Mistress Hydrating Hair Balm. I use just a bit when my hair feels extra dry.
If your ends are dry, apply an oil-based product, like a serum. I like using Sexy Hair Healthy Moisturizing Love Oil.
If your hair is damaged or moisturizing products don’t seem to be working, try adding protein to your hair. You can find this in shampoo and conditioner and styling products like the Joico K-Pak line. I’ve been really impressed with their Defy Damage Protective Masque and Protective Shield.
If you blow-dry your hair, use a smoothing product. My hairstylist used Amika Velveteen on me the other day and it smells really good! I also want to try IGK Good Behavior Spirulina Protein Smoothing Blowout Balm because I like the other products I’ve tried. I don’t tend to use a smoothing balm because I don’t blowdry my hair out smooth. But if you do, it will really help create a sleek effect!
I like to finish my style with a spray that smooths and adds shine like Sexy Hair Healthy Smooth & Seal Anti-Frizz & Shine Spray.
And to finish it off clear brow gel to help tame little flyaway hairs and keep them down. Especially around the part and hairline!
Other Tips to Fight Frizz
- Blow-dry downward to help the cuticle lay down flat.
- Use a microfiber towel (a smoother towel causes less friction).
- Pat with a towel, instead of rubbing, to remove excess water.
- Sleep with a silk pillowcase. I am personally not a fan because they slide off my pillows when I move around (a lot lol) but, they are good for your skin and hair because they cause less friction.

When I chat with women about their wavy hair struggles, almost all of them have mentioned that it’s frizzy. So, although hair frizz is very common, it sure is nice to be able to control it.
