Mask-Friendly Makeup Routine

The past year has been a weird one to review makeup since I think most of us can say that we haven’t been wearing much of it during the pandemic. I started to miss it, especially mascara, so I’ve been wearing it a bit more the past few monnths. Mostly when I go to the office and want to feel more put together. Of course, there is the issue of wearing a mask. I don’t have to wear a mask all day but when I do wear one, my makeup comes off on it. The struggle, right? Recently I perfected a mask-friendly makeup routine! It seems to wear well with a mask and it’s quick because it’s just a few products.

Most of the products are drugstore brands. The ones that aren’t I actually have in the mini sizes, which I like to get when I can to see if I like it. Most of the time, they last a while anyway.

Primer: Elf Matte Putty Primer is my current fave!

Brow Gel: I’ve been using Gimme Brow+ Tinted Volumizing Eyebrow Gel for a quick brow touch-up. I use shade 4. I really like this gel because the spoolie brush is short and easy to work with on my naturally thin brows. It adds just enough fullness but if I have any sparse areas that need a little more color I use my go-to ABH Brow Wiz in dark brown.

Concealer: Since this is a more natural look, I use Maybelline Fit Me Concealer. The fair shade is a great match for my skin tone which makes it so I can get away with just covering where needed. Typically, I just use it around my eyes, but if I have a blemish I’ll use it there, too.

Powder: A translucent powder is another key to keeping the coverage light because it doesn’t change the color of skin/makeup. Lawless Seal The Deal Loose Setting Powder is my current fave. I feel like a lot of translucent powders have a white cast to them but this one doesn’t!

Setting Spray: There are lots of good setting sprays, depending on your skin’s needs. I prefer a mattifying formula. Currently, I’m using Tarte  Shape Tape Stay Spray.

Lash Primer: By now, you probably know my love of a lash primer. I’ve gotta use one! Tarte Opening Act is the current one in my makeup bag.

Mascara: I’m currently using Tarte Surfer Curl. It’s not my favorite because it’s not super dark. Here are my drugstore mascara recommendations if you’re looking for something more budget-friendly.

Lip: The Buxom Power-full Plump Lip Balm is great for everyday wear because it’s moisturizing and not sticky at all. I have the nude shade called Inner Glow and it’s a nice wash of color.

Extras

I’ve been using self-tanning drops on my face so I don’t normally wear a bronzer with this look, but it could be added to warm up the face.

Since I’m not covering all of my skin, I don’t feel blush is necessary, but again, it could be added for some color.

As you can see, there aren’t a lot of products for this routine. It’s really meant to brighten or cover the places that need it and make the eyes pop because that’s my favorite part of any look.  The thing I like about this routine is that it’s quick. I’m definitely not used to getting up early and doing a full face of makeup anymore. Plus, I’m taking advantage of the casual dress as much as I can.

If you try this mask-friendly makeup routine, let me know! And look for a fun video featuring these products on Instagram in the next few days.
