Skincare ft. First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue

A few months ago an Ulta Beauty Advisor told me about First Aid Beauty. I recognized First Aid Beauty from fellow bloggers but had really only ever seen the Ultra Repair line- which is the complete opposite of what I need. As we talked about my skin’s needs, she showed me the First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue line but I ended up with a trial kit of FAB’s top sellers in my hand. A little overwhelmed by a whole new line of products and their prices, I decided to think about it and come back later.

[Note – this line is no longer available for sale]

I normally stick to drugstore facial items because of the price. But, I realized it could be worth spending a little extra money if it helped get my skin under control. So, I went back to Ulta to purchase the trial kit. After talking to another beauty advisor I left with the Skin Rescue moisturizer and exfoliating pads instead. My current cleanser wasn’t gone yet but I decided to purchase the Skin Rescue cleanser after a few weeks so that I could use the whole system.

Before I go on-I want this post to focus on the products in my routine but, I feel like I can’t talk about skincare without telling you about mine. Here’s the short version of my struggle: acne-prone, scarring, and an oily t-zone. Thankfully my troubles have really only been during the last few years. But earlier this year I got some painful blemishes and more scarring. So, I went to my dermatologist and got a few prescriptions to help my skin heal. I had started using my new products and made sure to ask my doctor about them.

First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue

According to their website, First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue collection is designed to “control oil, minimize pores and detoxify skin”.

The line consists of 6 products. I currently use 3:

Skin Care ft. First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue | Caitlin Cosmetologist

Deep Cleanser with Red Clay:  twice a day

Skin Care ft. First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue | Caitlin Cosmetologist

Blemish Patrol Pads: every other or every few nights depending on how my skin feels

Skin Care ft. First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue | Caitlin Cosmetologist

Daily Face Cream: twice a day

One of the first things I noticed about FAB is that the products are all suitable for sensitive skin. My skin’s sensitivity is always a concern when trying something new for my face because I have had weird reactions plenty of times. But, that doesn’t stop me from trying new products, haha.

I love that FAB uses safe ingredients and keeps away from artificial ones. You can read more about that on their site.

The best part? My dermatologist approved all 3 of these products!

Double Cleansing

If you haven’t heard of double cleansing, it basically means that you wash once to remove your makeup and then wash again to cleanse the skin. This helps to ensure that all the makeup is removed and your face is thoroughly cleansed.  Clogged pores cause breakouts and not washing away all the dirt and sweat causes pores to clog.

Some people use their cleanser twice but I prefer to use this Neutrogena makeup remover for my first cleanse and then the red clay cleanser for the second.

Other Products

Along with the 3 First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue products, my dermatologist suggested I use a scrub 2 times a week. Since I knew I liked FAB and wanted to stick with something good for my skin I chose the Facial Radiance Polish from the Facial Radiance line (by FAB).  This exfoliator also brightens and purifies and was voted a 2016 InStyle Best Beauty Buy. My only complaint is the smell.

I use Burt’s Bees Skin Nourishment Eye Cream both day and night. I haven’t bitten the bullet and bought a prestige eye cream yet but I think this one is doing a good job. Suggestions are welcome, though!

These products are supplements to my daily routine, meaning I use them when needed:

I’m not using this up & up acne spot treatment much while I have something from my doctor but I always have a spot treatment on hand.

Micellar Cleansing Water (on a cotton pad) and the Micellar Make-up Remover Wipes are great for removing stubborn makeup around the eyes and hairline. They’re also great for refreshing my face.  I keep the water at home but can throw the wipes in my bag or my car. There are many micellar waters available but this one by Garnier is mattifying for oily (even sensitive!) skin. I’ve repurchased these Simple wipes many times.

Results

My skin’s still healing but after almost 2 months it does feel and look better overall. I’m very impressed by my products from the First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue line. And the Facial Radiance Polish! I know they cost more than what I’m used to and they won’t keep me from never breaking out. But, I feel good about using safe ingredients on my skin.  It’s kind of like what they say about professional hair color.  Protect that investment with professional hair products/good ingredients.  I’m spending time and money at the doctor’s and lots of time carefully washing my face. So, I should protect that with ingredients that are good for it.  And really, the prices aren’t as high as some other high-end facial care lines. Plus buying it at Ulta means I can earn and spend my Ultamate Rewards points! 🙂

*Everyone’s skin is different and these products and what my doctor recommended may not work for you. Although I’m a licensed cosmetologist trained in skincare, I’m not a medical professional. This post is not sponsored and the product was purchased on my own.

I know I’m not alone when I say this- when my skin feels like a mess I feel like a mess.  SO, good skincare IS worth it.

I’ve never heard of double cleansing, but it makes SO MUCH SENSE! I’m for sure going to start implementing it into my evening routine…especially since I don’t use something specifically for makeup removal.

So happy to hear FAB is working for you! I’ve never hear of the brand before, but will definitely look into it more.

PS – I looove my Ulta Rewards too!!! 🙂
