Ultra Violet Makeup- Color of the Year

Well friends, this is my 100th post! It’s crazy to me that I’ve published that many. Thank you so much for being part of this journey! I’m trying something a little different for today’s post. I’ve been interested in Pantone’s Color of the Year the last few years. I actually rang in the new year with the color for 2018 which is a beautiful vibrant shade of purple called ultra violet. I’ve always liked purple shadows, since they’re complimentary for hazel eyes, and some of my favorite nail polishes are purple hues as well. This past fall, I found a violet lipstick I was really into. (I posted about it in my favorite fall lipsticks post.)  So, I thought it would be fun to put together a list of ultra violet inspired makeup and beauty products to add to your current collection. I’ve included both drugstore and high-end options!

If you’re unfamiliar with Pantone’s Color of the Year, it’s a color chosen to signify current times and promote direction of designs and brands. They say this year’s shade “…communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future.” Read more about Pantone here.

For NYE I created a makeup look with violet shades using products I already owned. It was kind of spur of the moment, honestly.  I started using my sparkly eyeshadow and my Modern Renaissance palette and then my boyfriend mentioned that he was looking for a purple tie. He sent me a screenshot of the Pantone color and I was like – OH that’s a good idea. So I grabbed my violet lipstick and decided on a bold look. I guess it’s true when they say the best things go unplanned, haha. 🙂

It may not be realistic to wear ultra violet makeup most days but you could wear it as an accent like I did with my eyeshadow, or as a lipcolor when you go out. Personally, I love the way the lavender highlighter looks on my skin so I’ll be wearing that quite a bit.

Would you wear these shades?

Thank you again for reading! I truly appreciate your support!

  1. Congratulations on your 100th post! Isn’t it such a cool accomplishment? 🙂 I love the NYE look you created- I’m not much into purple makeup, but this makes me want to venture! All of the nail polishes catch my eye, but I kind of want to try that violet lipstick. XO
